A firearm was discharged at the luxury Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour on Thursday morning, police have confirmed.
A shot was reported shortly after 9am. Witnesses who were at the Sofitel have described hearing two loud bangs. No injuries were reported.
The incident sparked an armed police response, with officers descending on Auckland’s viaduct after a member of the public reported hearing gunfire.
Witnesses say around 20 armed officers stormed the Sofitel hotel lobby.
At least one person was seen being taken from the hotel by police.
Three people are being questioned by police in relation to the incident.
On person at the Sofitel is assisting police with their inquiries, and two other people, from Orakei where another site was cordoned off by police, are also being questioned.
Inquiries to establish what happened are ongoing.
