Morgan Creek Entertainment, which was behind the first two Ace Ventura movies, has confirmed a new instalment is in the works.
The production company has announced it has writers attached, with the project set to be available to stream.
When asked about what Morgan Creek has in the pipeline during an interview with Park Circus, the team responded that they were excited about their developments with the Ace Ventura franchise.
“It’s noticeable from the 3 million fans chatting on the official Facebook page for Ace Ventura that audiences are clamouring for a third instalment,” the company said.
“During COVID, audiences have been in love and are thrilled to have beloved characters brought back with new stories.
“Ace Ventura will see a new day at Amazon as a major motion picture/theatrical with the Sonic the Hedgehog writers.”
There’s no word yet on whether Jim Carrey, who starred as the film’s title character, will reprise his iconic role.
Courteney Cox also starred in the first film as Ventura’s love interest, but it’s unclear whether she will return for the project.
Word of the third movie in the franchise comes 27 years after the original film, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective became a hit.
The film was released in 1994, the year Carrey also had hit roles in The Mask and Dumb and Dumber.
